We started this theme with games in which we encouraged the group to think about their identity, including their family, friends, barrio, school, pets and other things that defined them and make them unique.
Then it was time to create Mi Mundo (My world) in which the children in groups created a globe shape and then added representations of their own personal island to this larger world. This encouraged teamwork to make the large world shape and then each kid showed the things that were important to them in their lives through their islands, whether that was their favourite food or their plans for the future.
The following week continuing this theme the children created their own personal bandana, expressing their identity or what’s important to them in their own unique styles. Both of these activities were really successful in all of the sectors. And they worked really well in their teams to create their little worlds with their own islands.
