Ecuador: Carpetas Artisticas y Las Reglas

Hola todos!

This is Katie reporting for the first time from the JUCONI office here in Guayaquil! I am really excited to be here working with both CMAP and JUCONI. With our first two weeks as co facilitators underway, Chloe and I wanted to give you an update on what’s been happening since the exhibitions and what the next month has in store for the children of Isla Trinitaria, Balerio Estacio and Nueva Prosperina.

The first week back in Club de Arte after a two week break was met with much energy from all sides. We concentrated this weeks workshop on seeing ourselves as artists and the importance and value of our work. We created ‘carpetas artisticas’ or artists portfolios. This coincided nicely with the handing back of all the participants’ pieces from the exhibitions as they now have a place to keep their 2D work.

We then looked at ‘Las Reglas de Club de Arte’ , The rules of Club de Arte. Each workshop gave the children the opportunity to collaborate on large scale banners using every colour paint imaginable!

Next week is all change again as we say buen viaje to Chloe as she sails off for a months travel in Ecuador, and at the same time we welcome back Rachel who will be co facilitating with me as we begin our first project together entitled ‘Color y Luz’ or ‘Colour and Light’. This project will involve a variety of exploration workshops including how to mix colours, using coloured transparencies to make beautiful ‘windows’ to transform the space we’re in and how we can use light as a form of art….so watch this space, I look forward to sharing more updates and images with you soon!
