I write this whilst sitting on the sofa in England… still living on Ecuador time, jet lag has got me good, and I already miss the hot and busy Guayaquil lifestyle! I have been home three days and it is time to reset my bodyclock to BST, say a proper farewell to life in Ecuador as a CMAP Facilitator, and farewell to this here blog.
Last week Katie and I ran a proper ‘Despedida’ week to say my goodbye’s in art club. Our final activity together in the ‘Color y Luz / Colour and light’ project involved colour mixing, with a little difference. Rather than mix paint to discover colours we chose to use coloured water, which mixes the colours far more reliably and provides an instant magic ‘wow’ effect! We then played physical mixing games with the parachute to test our knowledge of colour mixing, all taking a primary colour and mixing with one-another to make secondary colours. Finally we showcased the ‘Colour and Light’ stop-motion film we have made with all the art-works from the project so far.
The project has focused on creating art without the usual artists tools – we have banned pens and pencils from art club! In the film you can see the ‘ventanas coloridas / coloured windows’ we created to experiment with changing colour and light in the space in which we work, then our ‘drawing with light triangles / triangulos de dibujando con luz’, we perferated the paper and hence the drawings are only fully visible when held up to the light, and finally the ‘sun paper’ pictures, created using objects and sillouettes to ‘catch shadows’ on the sun paper.

I leave you all in the more than capable hands of old-hand Chloe Bassett and and new-blood Katie Miller. Can’t wait to watch all the exciting new projects unfold through this blog (I have the inside knowledge – the girls have some BIG things planned for Art Club Ecuador this year!).
Thank you CMAP & JUCONI Ecuador, for eight jam-packed, chaotic, sweaty, fun, fulfilling, unforgettable months in Art Club Ecuador!
Nos vemos,
Raquel xx
