Rachel Silver
Workshop leader, Mar 2012 to Sep 2012
Rachel Silver is a freelance mosaic artist. She originates from New Zealand and has an extensive background in the applied arts including ceramic production, glass casting, jewellery and sculpture making. Her love of such art forms and the ‘happy accidents’ that occur in technical processes such as the collection of precious broken shards, led her to an interest in the combination of these to produce hand crafted mosaics. She studied traditional mosaic making methods, gaining hands on experience in various European cities – rich with the cultural and architectural history that a young country like hers couldn’t offer. Although she is inspired every day by her immediate visually rich urban environment, the vivid colours, patterns in nature and movement of the south pacific are distinctive in her design style. Rachel will be spending 6 months in Brazil for cmap.
