Comic Strips

A multi media visual arts projects run by Anna Sims and Gemma John during their placement in Puebla, Mexico with a group of boys aged between 9 – 14 years who live in Casa JUCONI, a centre for street living young people.

The project was made up of different activities leading up the development of the final pieces, including drawing games, drawing techniques and printing workshops, a photography workshop and making flick books.  One session took the boys outside the Casa JUCONI house to draw the surrounding houses and scenery.

Participants enjoyed dressing up and taking photographs and all created an A2 size comic style storyboard using posed photos of themselves and variety of techniques for the backgrounds.  Stories included themselves in the future for example as firemen, stories of their normal day, being super heroes and a dream sequence.
